PFC Cup Futsal Davao: Metro TMS, Hooligans top first elims

DAVAO CITY—Metro TMS and Hooligans, two of the fancied teams in the ongoing PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal Davao leg tournament, played true to form last Saturday to lead the first four finals qualifiers
after the first round of eliminations at the NCCC Mall Activity Area.

Metro TMS was particularly impressive with three wins in as many outings to sweep Bracket A along
with Philippine Rabbies which took the second slot with 2 wins and a loss. Hooligans meantime topped
a very tough Bracket B despite a loss earlier with a 2-1 card. Alia Orange FC took the second slot over Fil-
Chi via a better quotient after the two teams ended the eliminations with identical 1-2 slates.

Only the top two teams after the single round robin eliminations advance to the finals on August
7 of the tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower,
City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao. The
tournament is sanctioned by the Davao Football Association.

DFA Technical Committee chair Albert Ryan Lim, NCCC Mall’s James Galvez, Unilab’s Leo Aquino, Sun
Cellular’s Gen Marchan and Green Windows and FTC Towers’ Mae Aguirre made the ceremonial kick-off
in a short ceremony.

The event, the biggest indoor football tournament in a mall here, featured the innovation protective
shock nets installed around the playing area to protect the mall vicinities and the crowd without limiting
the intense action.

“We are happy to host a very unique event like this in NCCC. It’s amazing to see football played inside a
mall,” said Galvez of NCCC Mall Marketing Office.

Aside from playing in a new turf and atmosphere, players also received free SIMs from Sun Cellular
and vitamins from Unilab as giveaways. “Unilab is proud to be a partner of this event as we continue to
promote healthy lifestyle,” Aquino said.

In the tournament appetizer, Bluejaz FC and Black Knights FC battled to a 2-all draw in a match featuring
kids aged 12 years old and under. 9-year old Jazmin Erin Middleton of Bluejaz FC scored the first goal of
the day and earned the Phoenix Goal Icebreaker Award.

The second round of eliminations will be held this Saturday with eight more teams vying for the four
remaining finals slots. These are S and G Ventures, Team Smileys, Montevista, and UM Tagum for
Bracket C, Black Knights, Inter Davao United, Solido FC and Malita FC.

In the women’s division, DDS, Solido FC A, Solido FC B, and Black Knights will dispute the title.
