Football goes to NCCC Mall with PFC Cup

DAVAO CITY--And now, football at the mall.
 
Yes, folks, the country’s new-found love for football moves up to a new level with the staging of the PFC Cup Futsal Winners Cup Davao leg at the NCCC Mall.
 
The event, which serves as the official qualifying tournament for the PFC Cup Winners Cup National Finals this November in Manila, will be staging two eliminations on July 16 and 23 with the top four teams advancing to the Finals on August 7.
 
Local organizer Neil Bravo bared the staging of this keenly-awaited event on Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) weekly sports forum at the Tower Inn.
 
“It’s amazing that in two days after we sent out invitations to the clubs in Davao, 14 teams responded in the men’s draw and 4 confirmed in the women’s draw,” Bravo said.
 
There will only be 8 slots available during each eliminations and only two slots remained in the men’s division as of Wednesday. The women’s division has 4 more slots remaining.
 
Those who have signed up for the men’s division are Metro TMS, Club 34, Central United FC, Hooligans, Philippine Rabbies, Alia Orange, Team Asbal, UM FC, S and G Ventures, Black Knights, Team Smileys, Solido FC, Montevista FC, Tagum City, Columbia FC and Bluejaz FC. In the women’s division, Ateneo de Davao, Solido FC, DDS, Cagayan de Oro, Black Knights and Philippine Women’s College have confirmed.
 
Phoenix Petroleum, Davao City Government, Bravetower Promotions and NCCC Mall Davao are co-presenting the event in cooperation with Futsal de Davao and Davao Football Association. The major corporate backers are Sun Cellular, Accel, Star Sports Korea, Premier Condoms, and EDCO and Sons Tent Rentals. Also backing up the event are S and G Ventures, Columbia Computer Center, Acer, Enervon HP, Enervon Tablets, Alaxan, The Village Sport, and Nivea.

DDS Tigs, Pibulls top Kicksand Beach Football Minda leg

Bluejaz hosts Kicksand beach football on Saturday

DAVAO CITY—Bluejaz Resort and Waterpark lays down its new beach football facility on Saturday with the staging of the 2011 2011 Kicksand Beach Football Tournament Mindanao Leg in Samal Island.

Saturday’s action will be for the women’s division where seven teams have signified to crowd the hunt for the title. The women’s division is composed of Black Knights, Solido FC, Team Galaxy, Igacos-Bluejaz, DDS Tigs, DDS Teens and Metro TMS Angels.

A brief opening ceremony will formally open hostilities in this event organized by the Beach Football Association. BFAP President Mike Athab and Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Aniano Antalan are the guests of honor in the opening program. Also expected are Davao Football Association president Edward Lam and vice president Erwin Protacio, Davao Norte FA president Rene Cosmod and Bluejaz Resort owners Richard and Jazmin Middleton.

Leading the title-hunters in the men’s division is the veteran-laden Columbia FC, a fixture in club football tournaments in Davao for the past two decades. Out to make the battle for supremacy a wide open race are Black Knights, Metro TMS, Solido FC, Philippine Rabies, Tagum City, Bluejaz FC, PNP-Davao Norte, Team Asbal, Metro Card Club 3410, Kingfisher, Montevista FC, Igacos FC, Malita FC, Central United and S&G Adventures.

Four teams are still on the waitlist for the men’s division—Seagull, Bulldogs, Solido FC-B, and Malita-B.

The tournament is the final leg of the beach football trilogy that started in Subic on April 16-17 and Boracay on May 28-29. Mama Sitas FC and Libertas FC won the titles in the Luzon leg in Subic while Loco Frio Boracay won the Visayas leg recently over Zigzag FC. Holiday Homes Boracay pocketed third place.

The Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Football Federation are supporting the tournament which hopes to discover fresh talents for future beach football national teams.

Record 24 teams sign up for Kicksand beach football

a record field in the keenly-anticipated 2011 Kicksand Beach Football Tournament Mindanao Leg this
