PFC Cup Futsal Davao leg gets going at NCCC

DAVAO CITY—Eight teams will take the first crack for a finals slot to the PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal Davao leg tournament which gets going on Saturday at the NCCC Mall Activity Area.

Metro TMS, Central United, Philippine Rabbies and Nabunturan FC will dispute the top two slots for Bracket A while Fil-Chi FC, Hooligans, Alia Orange FC and Igacos FC battle it out in Bracket B. Only the top two teams after the single round robin eliminations advance to the finals on August 7 of the tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower, City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao. The tournament is sanctioned by the Davao Football Association.

DFA President Edward “Chaya” Lam, NCCC Mall’s James Galvez, Phoenix Petroleum corporate affairs officer Beethoven Sur, Sports Development Division chief Cholo Elegino and organizer Neil Bravo will lead today’s ceremonial kick-off in a short ceremony before the start of hostilities.

The event, the biggest indoor football tournament in a mall here, has already attracted 20 teams. The other eight teams in the July 23 eliminatins are S and G Ventures, Team Smileys, Montevista, and UM Tagum for Bracket C, Black Knights, Inter Davao United, Solido FC and Malita FC.

In the women’s division, DDS, Solido FC A, Solido FC B, and Black Knights.

Giving corporate support to the event are official residence Green Windows, FTC Towers, Frenzy Condoms, Young and Active Pinay, EDCO and Sons Tent Rentals, S and G Ventures, Columbia Computer Center, Acer, Enervon HP, Enervon Tablets, Alaxan, Valvoline Lubricants, Probinsya, Buffet Palace, Cherifer Premium, Star Sports Korea, The Village Sport, Nivea and official outfitter Accel.

“It’s a wide open race. The teams are about even,” said match commissioner Alex Adolfo.

The event, which serves as the official qualifying tournament for the PFC Cup Winners Cup National Finals this November in Manila, will be staging two eliminations on July 16 and 23 with the top four teams advancing to the Finals on August 7.

DFAid: Davao footballers show love for flood victims

The charity games held last Sunday at the Crocs Field inside Riverfront City raised support for the flood victims of Davao. The event was organized by the Davao Football Association, Davao Football Community, ABS CBN and Bravetower Promotions. Davao City Host Lions Club led by president Walter Vilacencio also gave their donations through DFAid.

Support flooded at the Crocs Field on Sunday with the staging of DFAid or Davao

Football Aid which gathered some 300 football aficionados who played and gave their share for the June

29 flood victims of Davao.

Football players from the different clubs under the Davao Football Community, the Davao Football

Association, host Crocodile Park management, and the Lions Club of Davao City all came for the DFAid

fun games with their contributions--some came with food, clothing, shoes while the rest chipped in their

share of cash donations.

Arrieta, Crocodile Park management’s Dino Dizon and Christian Ea, DFA coaches Alex Adolfo and

Melchor Anzures turned over the donation to ABS CBN DXAB Station Manager Andy Rara shortly after

the fun games.

“We thank the DFC and everyone who gave their help for the flood victims, we hope that this will

provide some relief to them. We will not hesitate to play for our fellow Davawenyos who need help,”

sad Lam after the turnover.

“The show of support was overwhelming. The outcome more than surpassed our expectations,” said

volunteer organizer Neil Bravo.

Earlier, Davao City Host Lions Club also gave their donation through the DFAid. They were led by

President Walter Villacencio, himself a football enthusiast, Secretary Melanie Villacencio, PCC Jose Cua,

PP Teresita Javellana, PP Tita Melanculicco, PP Lucio Ongsiu, PP Nelson Yusie and members Ester Reys,

Medy Suansing, Melanio Reyes, and Ricardo Suansing.

DFCs Arrieta received the donations and thanked the Davao City Host Lions Club for choosing to channel

their donation trough the DFAid.

On hand to award the trophy, medals, and certificate of participation are Ms. Stefanie Cris Perez (Cherifer Trade Marketing Coordinator); Mr. Bernard Bernardo (Tournament Organizer); and, Erwin Protacio (Davao FA general secretary).  Cherifer mascot, Cherry Boy,  provided entertainment during the awarding ceremony.

This 2-day tournament and festival attracted more than 500 kids who participated in drills and skills training conducted by coaches attending the FIFA Grassroots Pro-Active Course.  Participants from the public and private schools, community organizations, LGUs, and NGOs intermingled with each other in fun games and small sided competitions.  Even first timers are given the chance to participate and play.

FIFA Course Instructor Takeshi Ono, PFF Technical Director Aris Caslib, PFF Mindanao Coordinator Percy Guarin, and PFF executive vice president Mike Batiles supervised the conduct of the festivities.

Davao footballers unite for DFAid at Crocs field

Support came as far as football associations from Lupon in Davao Oriental as Davao’s football community play for one significant event and for a laudable cause on Sunday with the staging of DFAid or Davao Football Aid which aims to gather contributions for the flashflood victims of Davao.

“We have received several calls and messages for support, some coming from as far as Davao Oriental,” said volunteer organizer Neil Bravo.

DFAid is a project of the Davao Football Association in cooperation with the Davao Football Community, ABS-CBN Davao and Bravetower Promotions. Davao Football Association president Edward “Chaya” Lam called on all clubs and stakeholders to support the fund-raising project last Sunday at the Tionko Field.

The DFAid fun games will be staged at the Crocs Football Field at the Crocodile Park inside the vast Riverfront property along Maa Diversion Road. Games start at 2:00 in the afternoon and will end with the formal turnover of donation to representatives of the ABS-CBN Davao for distribution to the victims of the June 29 flodding in Davao, some of which are football players.

“There are football players who are flood victims themselves and we wish to help them,” said Christian Ea of the Crocodile Park football field management team and head of the Rules Committee of the DFA.

The DFAid will be accepting cash and in-kind donations during the fun games from all football aficionados as well as the rest of Davao’s sporting community.

Around 200 players are expected to take part in this charity event. DFAid is inviting all kind-hearted Davaoenos to come on Sunday to take part even if they do not play football.
