Black Knights, DDS win PFC Cup Futsal titles
Black Knights and DDS were the big winners on Sunday winning the men’s and women’s titles of the PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal-Davao at the NCCC Mall Activity Area.
As big winners, their title conquests too were big stories.
The Black Knights went through a harrowing battle with top favourite Metro TMS in the men’s semifinals before scoring a giant-sized upset via penalty shootout. Playing with only three men left after most of its stalwarts were thrown the red card in the highly-physical match-up, Metro TMS hang tough to the end for a 2-all standoff only to bow out after goalkeeper Sandro Balderas missed his attempt in the shootout.
The big win set the Black Knights up to go for it all in the finals against another surprise finalist Alia Orange FC. Eventual MVP Francis Abrasaldo found the back of the net five times to lead the Knights to a masterful 7-4 win and the right to play in the National Finals on November 26 in Manila.
The women’s side was a story of experience prevailing over youth. DDS, recent winners of the 2011 Kicksand Beach Football, added the futsal title to its trophy case with a 3-1 conquest over a youth-laden Solido FC Team B. Best striker awardee Merlo Albano scored twice and Kakay Solcruz headed home one to sandwich a lone goal by Solido FC Team B’s Nina Arrieta.
DDS thus also earned the ticket to the National Finals of this tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower Promotions, City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao.
Philippine Rabbies beat Metro TMS in the battle for third in the men’s side while Solido FC Team A also copped third beating Black Knights in the women’s division.
Abrasaldo and diminutive Annalou Ingles of DDS bagged MVP honors sppnsored by Phoenix while Ronoel Garfin and Reynalyn Ravanes were named Sun Cellular best goalkeepers and won a phone kit each. Ferdinand Balaga of Black Knights and Solcruz won Frenzy best defender awards. The winners of the Alaxan aray ko galing ko awards were Arman Valencia (Black Knights), Mark Dayanay (Phl Rabbies), Kid (Alia Orange FC), Eric Sedeighpour (Metro TMS), Josef Monalan (Alia Orange FC), Kyra Dimaandal (Solido B), Merlo Albano (DDS), Janna Barcemo (Solido B), Gabby Del Fierro (Solido B), and Annalou Ingles (DDS).
Phoenix Petroleum corporate affairs officer Ben Sur and PFC media affairs officer Joy Joseph Dimacali personally handed the trophies to the winners with NCCC Mall’s James Galvez, DFA’s Henry Sabate, Leo Aquino of Unilab, Rolly Quillo of Frenzy, Stef Perez of Cherifer, Mae Aguirre of Green Windows and Rameses Cabanilla of FTC Tower.

PFC Cup Futsal Final stage on Sunday at NCCC Mall
DAVAO CITY—It has all come down to this. The top eight squads in the men’s division and the best four teams in the women’s side—all for one coveted title and a spot to the National Finals.
With this, the stage is set for the knockout phase of the exciting PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal-Davao Leg on Sunday at the NCCC Mall Activity Area here where the action is expected to be fierce.
The quarterfinal stage begins with an interesting battle between two sister squads but for sure, there will be no love from the opening whistle between Group A top qualifier Metro TMS and Group C no. 2 S and G Ventures as they seek for the first ticket to the semis. The other match-ups will pit surprise package Lupon United, the topnotcher in Group C, against Group D no. 2 Philippine Rabbies, Group B top qualifier Hooligans against Group D no. 2 Black Knights, and Group D no.1 Malita FC against Group B no. 2 Alia Orange FC.
The survivors of the quarterfinals advance to the semifinals where the winners eventually clash in the winner-take-all finals of the tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower Promotions, City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao.
In the women’s division, Solido FC-B takes on Black Knights in the first semifinals while its sister team Solido FC-Team A face a veteran-laden DDS squad in the other semifinals setto.
The men’s and women’s champion will earn the right to represent Davao in the National Finals on November 26 in Manila where a spot to the international Futsal tournament in Belgium await the national champs.
Also at stake are the individual prizes for the Phoenix MVP award, Sun Cellular Best Goalkeeper and Frenzy Best Defender for both men’s and women’s divisions. PFC President Rex Velasquez will be joining special guest Atty. Raymond Zorilla of Phoenix Petroleum in the awarding ceremonies with City Sports Development division chief Cholo Elegino and DFA President Edward “Chaya” Lam.

PFC Cup Davao finals on Sunday
PFC CUP DAVAO FINALS. Eight teams will dispute the men's title while four squads will battle it out in the women's side in the Finals Stage of the PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal-Davao Leg on Sunday at the NCCC Mall. Malita, Lupon shock city rivals in PFC Cup Futsal
Two provincial teams conquered their city counterparts to emerge the top qualifiers in a spate of surprising twists in the second round of eliminations of the PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal Davao Leg at the NCCC Mall Activity Area.
Malita FC scored two late goals in their bruising duel against Inter Davao United to score a 5-3 victory in the final match of the day which also determined the last two qualifiers from Bracket D. The win shoved Malita FC, backed up by Vice Mayor Bradley Bautista, to the top of Bracket D with 2 wins and a draw good for 7 points while the loss booted the Valvoline-sponsored Inter Davao United out of the finals with 1 win and 2 losses.
The match also decided the fate of idle Black Knights FC which nailed the last finals berth with 1-1-1 win-draw-loss slate (5 points), knocking out Solido FC and Inter Davao United from the last slot to the August 7 finals of the tournament organized by the Philippine Futsal Clubs in cooperation with Bravetower Promotions, City Government of Davao, Phoenix Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao.
The event is sanctioned by the Davao Football Association (DFA) as part of its comprehensive football program under President Edward “Chaya” Lam.
Lupon United, another out-of-town team which took the last slot vacated by UM-Tagum only two days prior to the second round of eliminations, topped Bracket C with 2 wins and a draw good for 7 points while S and G Ventures took the other finals slot with a 1 won 2 draw card for 5 points.
In the women’s division, youthful Solido FC-Team B topped the qualifiers after sweeping all its three outings for a 3-0 slate (9 points). DDS finished second with a 1-1-1 card (4 points), Solido FC-Team A was third with 1-0-2 (3 points) and Black Knights with 0-1-2 (-5) came in fourth.
All four teams advance to the finals with Solido FC-B taking on Black Knights and Solido FC-Team A facing DDS in the semifinal stage.

PFC Cup Futsal Davao: Metro TMS, Hooligans top first elims
DAVAO CITY—Metro TMS and Hooligans, two of the fancied teams in the ongoing PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal Davao leg tournament, played true to form last Saturday to lead the first four finals qualifiers
after the first round of eliminations at the NCCC Mall Activity Area.
Metro TMS was particularly impressive with three wins in as many outings to sweep Bracket A along
with Philippine Rabbies which took the second slot with 2 wins and a loss. Hooligans meantime topped
a very tough Bracket B despite a loss earlier with a 2-1 card. Alia Orange FC took the second slot over Fil-
Chi via a better quotient after the two teams ended the eliminations with identical 1-2 slates.

The event, the biggest indoor football tournament in a mall here, featured the innovation protective
shock nets installed around the playing area to protect the mall vicinities and the crowd without limiting
the intense action.
“We are happy to host a very unique event like this in NCCC. It’s amazing to see football played inside a
mall,” said Galvez of NCCC Mall Marketing Office.
Aside from playing in a new turf and atmosphere, players also received free SIMs from Sun Cellular
and vitamins from Unilab as giveaways. “Unilab is proud to be a partner of this event as we continue to
promote healthy lifestyle,” Aquino said.

Green Windows supports PFC Cup Futsal
Green Windows Dormitel, a subsidiary of the FTC group of companies, has joined the corporate backers
of the keenly-awaited PFC Cup Winners Cup Futsal Davao leg tournament which reels off on July 16 at
the NCCC Mall Activity Area.
Green Windows thus becomes the official residence of the tournament organized by the Philippine
Futsal Committee in cooperation with Bravetower Promotions, City Government of Davao, Phoenix
Petroleum, Sun Cellular, NCCC Mall and Futsal de Davao. The tournament is sanctioned by the Davao
Football Association.
Also throwing support to the event are official outfitter Accel, Star Sports Korea, Frenzy Condoms,
EDCO and Sons Tent Rentals, S and G Ventures, Columbia Computer Center, Acer, Enervon HP, Enervon
Tablets, Alaxan, The Village Sport, and Nivea.
The first ever futsal tournament to be played in a mall here has already attracted 21 teams with at least
five more knocking on the door as waitlisted teams. Playing in the men’s division are Metro TMS, Club
34, Inter Davao United, Central United, Hooligans, Philippine Rabbies, Alia Orange FC, Igacos FC, S and G
Ventures, Black Knights, Team Smileys, Solido FC, Montevista FC, University of Mindanao-Tagum, Malita
FC and Nabunturan FC.
In the women’s division, DDS, Philippine Women’s College, ADDU-Solido FC, Black Knights and Cagayan
de Oro FC.
Five teams are in the waitlist and will be taking the spot of any team that backs out. These are PNP
Davao del Norte, Maco FC, Belisario FC, Oi Rogers and Lupon FC.
“We are limited to only 8 teams per eliminations per division. So far, the two eliminations for men are
already filled up. The women’s division has three slots open,” said local organizer Neil Bravo.
The event, which serves as the official qualifying tournament for the PFC Cup Winners Cup National
Finals this November in Manila, will be staging two eliminations on July 16 and 23 with the top four
teams advancing to the Finals on August 7.

Phoenix supports Winner’s Cup Futsal Davao Leg
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines will sponsor the PFC Cup Winner’s Cup Futsal Davao Leg eliminations on July 16 and 23, 2011, as well as the finals on August 7, 2011 that will be held in NCCC Mall Davao.
Forty teams from different places in the south are expected to gather for the event with 15 players per team. The Cup is open to both men and women (no age restrictions).
The top four teams in the eliminations will face each other in the Winner’s Cup Davao Leg Finals. The Davao Leg champion will compete in the National Finals in Manila on November 25, 2011, with the chance to represent the country in the International Futsal Tournament in Belgium.
The Davao Leg is the fourth leg of the PFC Cup, with the first two legs held in Metro Manila and the other in Naga City.(pr)

Football goes to NCCC Mall with PFC Cup
DAVAO CITY--And now, football at the mall.
Yes, folks, the country’s new-found love for football moves up to a new level with the staging of the PFC Cup Futsal Winners Cup Davao leg at the NCCC Mall.
The event, which serves as the official qualifying tournament for the PFC Cup Winners Cup National Finals this November in Manila, will be staging two eliminations on July 16 and 23 with the top four teams advancing to the Finals on August 7.
Local organizer Neil Bravo bared the staging of this keenly-awaited event on Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) weekly sports forum at the Tower Inn.
“It’s amazing that in two days after we sent out invitations to the clubs in Davao, 14 teams responded in the men’s draw and 4 confirmed in the women’s draw,” Bravo said.
There will only be 8 slots available during each eliminations and only two slots remained in the men’s division as of Wednesday. The women’s division has 4 more slots remaining.
Those who have signed up for the men’s division are Metro TMS, Club 34, Central United FC, Hooligans, Philippine Rabbies, Alia Orange, Team Asbal, UM FC, S and G Ventures, Black Knights, Team Smileys, Solido FC, Montevista FC, Tagum City, Columbia FC and Bluejaz FC.
